Working Together for Wellness

What is massage therapy?

  • Massage therapy is a comprehensive intervention involving a range of techniques to manipulate the soft tissues and joints of the body with the purpose of gaining a therapeutic effect.
  • Massage therapy is used to prevent, develop, mantain, rehabilitate or augment physcial function or relieve pain. It is a clinically- oriented health option which achieves undeniable results in the relief of an array of discomforts stemming from stress, muscular overuse and many chronic pain syndromes.

What do massage therapists do?

  • Massage therapists are capable of providing a wide range of benefits, from helping with painful injuries to providing preventative wellness care.
  • The most common reasons cited by patients for seeking care are: pain management, muscle soreness, stiffness or spasm, loss of range of motion and rehabilitation from injury. Massage therapy is useful in the management of many specific musculoskeletal conditions, especially those involving postural dysfunction or overuse injuries.

How can chiropractic care and massage therapy work together?

  • Muscles attach to the bone of the spine and help move joints. Ligaments and fascia additonally help support the spine. both muscular and connective tissue health is important for proper spinal health, and dysfunction in these tissues can affect proper spinal movement.
  • Having massage therapy can help address the surrounding soft tissues dysfunction, helping the chiropractor’s spinal correction.
  • If an area of spinal subluxation is adjusted without addressing the soft tissue problem, the tight muscles and shortened fascia may still pull on the spinal joints, making them stiffen up again very quickly.

A common goal for wellness…

Chiropractic care and massage theraoy are both natural, hands- on, drug-free interventions. They are also both focused on addressing the root cause of dysfunction rather than simply masking the problem.
